This practice, where employees work 9 AM to 9 PM, six days a week, was declared illegal in China in 2021 due to burnout. Murthy’s call has drawn sharp criticism from Indian workers, who point to issues like punishing commutes, rising costs, and the need for competitive salaries over extended hours.
