Tragedy struck southeastern Congo as a bridge at the Kalando copper and cobalt mine collapsed, claiming at least 32 lives. Illegal miners, defying warnings of heavy rain and landslides, were on the overcrowded structure when it gave way. Reports suggest panic ensued after soldiers fired shots, leading to the fatal crush.
