Mamata restores OBC quota to 17%; Muslim groups rise to 80; BJP slams ‘appeasement’ bid

Bengal’s revised OBC list, presented in the assembly, features 140 subgroups, with a higher Muslim representation at 57.1%. This revision aims to restore the 17% OBC reservation, addressing the legal challenges that had paused admissions and recruitments. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized backwardness as the sole criterion, countering opposition claims of appeasement politics, as the state resumes issuing OBC certificates.
