An Indian court has ruled that Australian family court orders regarding property settlements are unenforceable in India. The judge stated that the concept of “property settlement” under Australian law is alien to Indian matrimonial law. Consequently, Shikhar Dhawan’s former wife was ordered to return Rs 5.7 crore and cannot claim Rs 16.9 crore awarded by the Australian court.
