Former Google engineer Linwei Ding was convicted of economic espionage and theft of trade secrets for stealing thousands of pages of confidential AI technology information. Ding intended to benefit the People’s Republic of China by using Google’s proprietary data to develop AI supercomputers and machine learning chips, putting U.S. technological leadership at risk.
