Bareilly City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri resigned, citing deep disagreement with UGC regulations he deemed divisive and a threat to academic harmony. He alleged the new rules could foment caste discontent and lead to atrocities against Brahmins. Agnihotri also claimed he was held hostage at the District Magistrate’s residence, allegations refuted by the DM. Political leaders expressed concern over administrative pressure.
