India’s study-abroad boom looks national on paper, but the pipeline is regional in practice. State-wise data shows a narrow corridor of sending states that barely changes between 2016 and 2020, even as destinations shift from the US to Canada and beyond. The pattern suggests overseas education is driven less by aspiration than by ecosystem: credit access, counselling networks, professional-degree pipelines and migration memory.
