China has said it will firmly defend a United Nations–centred global order after receiving an invitation from the United States to join President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza Board of Peace. While Beijing has not confirmed whether it will accept the offer, it stressed its commitment to the UN system and international law. The invitation has led to debate over whether the new board could emerge as a parallel peace mechanism and what it could mean for existing multilateral institutions and power balances
