Navid Afkari was a rising Iranian wrestler who joined 2018 protests and was later executed in 2020. He denied the charges and said he was tortured. Amnesty International and the United Nations criticized the trial. Despite appeals from Donald Trump and Dana White, Iran carried out the execution, turning Afkari into a symbol of protest and fear.
