Renowned ecologist Madhav Gadgil, celebrated for his work on the Western Ghats, passed away in Pune at the age of 83. He was honored by the UN in 2024 with the Champions of the Earth award for his significant contributions to the region’s conservation. Gadgil also led a government panel studying the ecological impacts on the Western Ghats.
