New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sent a handwritten note to student activist Umar Khalid, currently jailed for nearly five years in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots. Mamdani expressed solidarity, stating, “we are all thinking of you” and recalling Khalid’s words on avoiding bitterness. Khalid denies the charges against him.
