Indian-origin Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor early Thursday, beginning a four-year term. The 34-year-old Democrat took the oath at the City Hall subway station, with a larger public ceremony to follow. Mamdani, known for his left-leaning views, previously served in the New York State Assembly.
