The Tamil Nadu government informed the Madras High Court that a stone pillar atop Thiruparankundram hill was built by Jain saints, not Hindus, citing archaeological evidence. The court is hearing appeals regarding lighting Karthigai Deepam at the pillar, with arguments also presented by a dargah’s counsel challenging the pillar’s designation as a lamp post.
