Fugitive economic offenders owe Indian public sector banks over Rs 58,082 crore, including Rs 26,645 crore principal and Rs 31,437 crore interest as of October 2025. Fifteen individuals, including Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, have been declared Fugitive Economic Offenders, with nine linked to major bank frauds. Banks have recovered Rs 19,187 crore so far.
