China is reportedly constructing a massive, nuclear-blast-resistant floating artificial island, a 78,000-tonne semi-submersible platform designed for self-sustaining, long-term residency. Expected to be operational by 2028, this “mega science infrastructure” will accommodate 238 personnel and operate in contested waters, signaling a significant expansion of China’s maritime power and “blue economy” agenda.
