‘Bengali speakers must be Bangladeshis’: CU students attacked with hockey sticks, knives

Calcutta University students residing at Carmichael Hostel were assaulted by Hindi-speaking hawkers near Sealdah Bridge after being taunted for speaking Bengali and labeled as Bangladeshis. The altercation escalated from a price negotiation dispute to a violent attack with rods, hockey sticks, and knives, resulting in serious injuries to four students.
